The Plataran Komodo Resort & Spa is a luxury beachfront retreat located at the gateway to Indonesia’s amazing Komodo National Park.
We stayed at the Plataran Komodo in May 2019 for a couple of nights after our 3D-2N Sailing Trip in the Komodo National Park. All in all, our trip to the Komodo National Park was one of the absolute highlights of our entire trip to Southeast Asia.

Location of the Plataran Komodo Resort
The Plataran Komodo Resort & Spa is located in the north of Labuan Bajo at the Pantai Waecicu (Waecicu Beach) on the island of Flores.
The Deluxe Beachfront Villa
A beautiful Deluxe Beachfront Villas has been our home for 3 nights. The one-bedroom villa is perfect for couples! It has a huge bed right in the middle of the room and an impressive view on the beach from the villa’s verandah.
At this time, we were three travelers (together with Anni’s sister), but this was not a problem at all as the villas are spacious, and the hotel organized a second bed before our arrival.
One negative aspect of the villa:
Our bathroom appeared a bit dark because of the small size of the window.
The Plataran Komodo Resort & Spa
The Plataran Komodo Resort is mainly built in traditional Indonesian and Javanese style. Away from the hustle and bustle from the city, the Plataran stands for tranquility and luxurious comfort.
Next to the numerous encounters which are offered, the resort’s facilities invite for relaxation under palm trees.
Some villas have a private pool, but the resort also offers a big pool in the common area. Floaties and sun loungers at the pool are great to relax after some adventures in the Komodo National Park.
Gym with a view
The gym of Plataran Komodo Resort & Spa is located directly at the beach and is fully glazed. Basic equipment for cardio and strength training is provided.
But let’s be honest:
The best workout is done outside exploring the beautiful nature, isn’t it?
Nonetheless: You don’t like jogging at the beach or workouts in the sand? No problem, enjoy the sunset while running on the treadmill!
In the spa, you can relinquish all tensions and recover from daily excursions from 9 am to 9 pm. From relaxing massages to intensive detox programs – the Padma Spa combines modern wellness techniques and ancient Asian healing rituals to rejuvenate your mind, body, and spirit.
The Xanadu is an open-air restaurant with Indonesian and Asian cuisine. It is located in the center of the resort and is combined with the hotel’s reception. Daily breakfast, lunch, and dinner, as well as unique treatments like beachfront barbecues and candlelight dinners, are available.
It was our favorite place to get some work done while enjoying some afternoon tea and snack with a view of the sea.
Atlantis On The Rock
Situated within a few steps from the Plataran Komodo Resort & Spa, it was our favorite place to be for some of the most incredible sunsets we have ever seen in our lives. Especially a walk down the pier in the red dipped horizon is an unforgettable experience!
Make sure to enjoy a cocktail on one of the day beds at the lower level!
The restaurant offers a variety of refreshing drinks and Indonesian and International comfort food with a fantastic view of the ocean.
Atlantis Beach Club
Next to the two restaurants in the hotel area, we also had the chance to have a look at the Atlantis Beach Club on the Pantai Pede for a traditional Indonesian cooking class.
Of course, in a proper vegan manner for us!
Those weird vegan tourists with their special favors… 😉
The Atlantis Beach Club offers traditional Indonesian dishes as well as casual Western fare and of course, a great selection of cocktails.
This place is perfect for special night outs in Labuan Bajo with regular live music, and the pleasure of a swimming pool right next to the bar!
The staff of Plataran Komodo Resort
The staff of the Plataran Komodo Beach Resort & Spa was amiable and attentive – whether it was a helping hand for carrying our backpacks, showing us around the area, or the massage that is part of the check-in procedure.
There is so much to do at Labuan Bajo and the Komodo National Park that one could stay there for a month and not be done with discovering.
Therefore the hotel has a team for adventures, activities, and encounters. Check out the offered encounters on their website.
Cooking class tour experience
As already mentioned before, we did the cooking class, which we can definitely recommend.
We were picked up by boat to drive to the local markets of Labuan Bajo. Arriving there, the cook picked us up with a private car, and we bought some fresh ingredients for the class.
We learned a lot about Indonesian cuisine and the use of ingredients, herbs, and spices. In the end, we created a super delicious 3-course menu together and enjoyed the great food in the backyard.
The Pantai Waecicu is one of the most beautiful beaches on the island of Flores. It’s a private beach and, therefore, a quiet and secluded tropical paradise.
Nevertheless, we have to admit that the beach is definitely not a world-class beach but still one of the best beaches on the west coast of Flores.
At this point, we must unfortunately also mention that Labuan Bajo (and the area around) has a critical waste problem, and the shores of the area are littered with ocean plastic. Especially in the south of the little town, the problem is overwhelming.
The private beach of the hotel, though, is always clean as the staff collects the trash.
Summary of our stay at Plataran Komodo Resort
We had a fantastic stay at the Komodo Plataran in May 2019. The area of the resort is at one of the most beautiful beaches around Labuan Bajo with amazing sunsets! The staff is super friendly and speaks fluently English, which makes communication very easy. The Deluxe Beach Villa was spacious and super cozy. The resort has two beautiful restaurants with amazing food, a gym with sea view and a pool area. On top of that, we were able to do plenty of activities, like kayaking, stand-up paddling, and sunrise trekking. Our highlight was a trip to the local markets of Labuan Bajo and a traditional Indonesian cooking class at the Atlantis Beach Club!
